Five of my favorite things for July

After watching a few lifestyle vlogs on YouTube, I decided to steal some ideas. One YouTuber I’ve been watching makes videos each month on five things that she got during the month that she likes. So here’s my version….

#5. PeacockTV

This month NBC launched it’s new streaming service Peacock. (The name comes from the NBC symbol which resembles a peacock) The streaming service that launched July 15th offers viewers two ways to view some of their favorite NBC shows as well as other shows from NBC’s parent networks.

What sets Peacock apart from other streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ is there is a free option to view content. That is a first for the streaming service universe. For the free option Peacock has its full library of shows but only has a limited about of episodes for you to watch. For those who want the full Peacock experience Peacock Premium costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and Peacock Premium Ad-Free costs $9.99 per month and $99.99 per year. I brought the yearly subscription when they had a limited time offer of getting the service for a whole year for only $29.99.

As far as streaming services go, Peacock is pretty cool they have a decent catalog of tv shows and movies. They don’t have as many movies that I thought they would which is a little disappointing but it’s not the end of the world. However there is one big feature that Peacock has that sets it apart from all other streaming services and that is channels.

On the Peacock home screen there are lots of different channels that play clips and episodes of shows 24/7. My personal favorite is the SNL Vault channel. It plays old and new Saturday Night Live sketches all the time. If SNL isn’t your thing they are also channels that show news broadcasts and an Olympic chancel that shows old olympic events.

Whether you are a fan of NBC shows or not, Peacock has a wide variety of shows to cater any tv viewer. It’s definitely a purchase I’m glad I made and it gives me lots more to binge watch.

#4 Lazy Day Salsa

One thing that I love more than anything when it comes to food is chips and salsa. I have always had particular store brand salsa that I like. In June I found a recipe to make salsa at home, but I didn’t make it until July. That one time was all it took. I was hooked. It’s called Lazy Day Salsa, it only has about seven ingredients and you can even make it in a blender. It has been a main staple in my house and it has been made almost every week since we first made it.

Here’s the recipe:

#3 Minimalism Art Journal

Writing has always been a love of mine. When I was nine or ten years old my nana got me my first journal, and I wrote about all about my elementary and middle school days. After middle school I stopped writing in journals but I had a binder of notes and stories that I wrote for quite a while.

This year I decided that I should probably get a journal like an adult. I found the Minimalism Art notebooks on Amazon and they had great reviews. The notebooks come in many different sizes. I picked the pocket size ones because I knew I wouldn’t be doing any major amounts of writing in them. One I use for general notes and random thoughts and the other I use as a journal. The notebooks are very well made and seem like they will hold up pretty well. They are a great way to get your thoughts and feelings on paper and they come in lots of cute colors.

#2 Birkenstock Sandals

I should start off by saying that I have never been one to try things or wear things when they were “trendy” or “in style”. Growing up my family wasn’t poor but we weren’t well off either. With that I didn’t start splurging on clothes until I got half way through college.

I have always seen girls wear Birkenstock sandals. Every single time I would say “oh those are so cute. One day I’m going to have to try the out.” Well friends I bought them! They are the best. Not only are they comfortable but they go with almost every outfit I have.

^^These were the ones I got. The “Arizona” is one of the companies most popular sandals of all time. They are partly the best sandals that I’ve ever hard. They are also the most expensive sandals I’ve bought as well.

Aside from the price tag I should mention one slight thing that is a tad bit frustrating. One thing that I learned when I was searching the shows before I bought them was that there is an extensive break in progress that you need to go through before you wear the sandals long term. Now I’m not sure if it works the same way for the other styles but it definitly works for the Arizona. When I first got them I wore them only an hour a day for the first two days. After that I gradually increseased the time that I wore them for. After about five days or so the sandals were good to go.

This process is necessary because the sandals are made with a very hard foot bed. So when you get them you have to wear them until they fit your footbed. My recommendation is to wear them around the house for the first week after getting them. You know they are good to go when you start to see the imprint of your foot on the sole of the sandal. After that you are left we very cute and comfortable sandals that will become a major part of your everyday wardrobe.

#1 Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

My skin has always been an issue for me. I have combination skin, which means that my skin gets very dry buy also gets very oily. Something that has never really made sense to me but there’s really nothing that I can do about it.

I had bad acne through out high school and was constantly flipping back and forth between facial cleasers. I kept trying to find one that would clean my face but not pirate my skin and at the same time not dry my skin too much. At last during my senior year of high school I discovered Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. It was the answer to my prayers and a miracle. Fast foward five years later and I’m still using it.

Recently my dry skin has proven to be a problem. I was once again bouncing back and forth trying to find a face lotion that would moisturize my skin so I wouldn’t look like a ghost all day. Unfortunately I ended up dealing with a oily T zone and occasional clogged pores.

This month I took a leap of faith and tried a new moisturizer. What I found has little changed my life. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is amazing. It comes in a small jar and it only takes a small amount of gel to keep my skin moisturized all day. When I first starting using it, I had a hard time figuring out if it was really working because it basically melted into my skin and felt like I didn’t put anything on. After a few days I know that there is no going back. This is the best and it doesn’t break the bank either. This Hydro Boost gel has given my skin life and I will be using it for a very long time.

Stay tuned, for better things have yet to be written. CG
